January 30th, we enjoyed another great opportunity to share our story of friendship and inclusion, and plant seeds of possibility when we presented for the support staff team at Neelin High-school in Brandon. What can be most rewarding for us is when we have the opportunity to present to the very people that have such incredible power in supporting the friendships that Shane and Trem experienced.
Too often school teams go unrecognized in the roles they play in the development of these extraordinary friendships and experiences. Friendships between children with and without disabilities require intentional facilitation. Even when the initial steps begin authentically at the grass roots level between the children themselves, they do require ongoing support from everyone around them...the educational team, the parents of the child with a disability and the family of the child without. It's a concerted team effort, but the rewards of working in support of the magic that unfolds is second to none! The reward of seeing the outcomes of that friendship in unsurpassed in anything else one can experience! We would love the chance to share the story of our journey with you if the opportunity were to present itself!
